January's Wedding Cake
This cake gave me a lot of trouble. I wanted the tiers to have a bamboo look which I was originally going to do in fondant but I decided to save some time and use cookies instead. I bought out all of the cookies from a dollar store but when I went to put them on the cake half of them were broken and couldn't be used. Both grocery stores in town only carried the shorter version. I finally found some at Walgreens. They look different then the others but still looks ok.
My other issue was with the middle tier. I decided to use the petal shaped pan. I only used the petal shape once before and had a little bit (ok-a lot) of a struggle with it but I thought it would be easier with the fondant. It was sooo NOT easier! I think I would be happy if I never had to do one again!

Nikki's Butterflies

Sneek Peek
The first cake is for my sister Nikki whose birthday is today. It is going to be a plain old chocolate cake because that is her favorite. Her only request was butterflies. I actually started working on the butterflies and flowers a couple of weeks ago. I have a tendency to procrastinate so this is quite shocking. Here is a sneak peek:
The other cake is for Fathers Day and is a bit trickier. I'm attempting to make the house from Disney/Pixar movie Up complete with balloons. I had some troubles finding some decent images from the movie. Most pictures show the house from a distance or from weird angles. I don't have much done on this one yet but here is a little peek:
Greetings
I started decorating about six years ago. My Dad found a "vintage" Strawberry Shortcake character pan at a garage sale and I decided to try it out "just for fun". Eight hours later ( In my defense I only had one bag, coupler, and tip that I had to keep washing between colors) I was hooked. Things just grew from there. I eventually moved on to fondant and 3-D cakes. I am self taught - I have never taken any classes.
